But you must REMEMBER, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you,”In the last time there will be scoffers following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. Jude 17-18
These people will have the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. We are to avoid such people.
For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Jude 4
As I read this and processed this statement. I can see that living in unrepentant sin without struggle is perverting the grace of our God into sensuality. This is to deny our Master and Lord Jesus Christ.
They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work. Titus 1:16
We need to be able to discern the difference between the Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Error. After spending some time in: Jude, 2 Peter 2, Titus 1:10-16, and 2 Timothy 3:1-9; I fear that our churches have been overrun with the Spirit of Error, so much so that it is nearly impossible to tell who is of God and who is of Satan.
We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the Spirit of error. 1 John 4:6
A characteristic of a child of God, is a desire to know the truth. The truth is Jesus. A child of God is teachable. A child of God desires to be known and to walk in the light. A child of God may struggle with sin, but a child of God will not be overcome by sin. Because He who is us is greater than he who is in the world.
Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” John 8:43–47
As I continued in Jude I felt the Spirit prompt me to ask these questions:
Are you grumbling?
Are you malcontent? Are you disatisfied and rebellious?
Are you following your own sinful desires?
Are you a loud-mouthed boaster?
Do you show favoritism to gain advantage?
For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. 2 Peter 2:19
What are you seeking? Are you seeking Gods glory or your own? Are you seeking the Kingdom of God or are you seeking your own kingdom on earth?
