“Without a baptism of repentance, a turning away from our sins, we are not vessels ready to receive the Holy Spirit.”
John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” Luke 3:16-17
“He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire.”
The Holy Spirit wasn’t poured out until Jesus left. Jesus ORDERED them not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the Promise of the Holy Spirit.
And you will receive power when the Holy spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you”~ Jesus
Jesus said to his disciples after he was resurrected, right before he ascended:
He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:46-49
“That repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem” ~ Jesus
I believe the reason we are not seeing POWER in our churches today and we are not seeing God move, is because we have stopped preparing the way for the Kingdom to Come. We have stopped preaching that the Kingdom of God is at hand, we have stopped calling people to repentance. We offer a false salvation in saying “I believe” without proclaiming repentance.
The King is Coming Again
“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:1
I cried as I read this passage this morning because I believe that God has placed this call on my life. I believe the same Spirit crying out in the wilderness of Jesus’ day is the same Spirit that cries out in me.:
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways; to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke 1:76-79
What will happen if we don’t sound the alarm? What happens if we don’t cry out in the wilderness of today? What if we don’t wake people from their slumber?
Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 2 Timothy 2:21
